nnSoftware-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that have been typically implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system.nn nnSoftware Defined Radio night will be this Friday at 7pm during the regularly scheduled cinci2600 meeting. Dave B has a HackRF blue that was generously donated to the space along with several other HackRF blue units. Come on down and play with this fun technology!nnn
Open Hours

Greetings everyone! My name is Dustin, and I’ll be working as a volunteer this summer at Hive13. So until September, we will have open hours to give people the opportunity to tour our space, see what a makerspace looks like, or just to come down to work on a fun and exciting project! Starting this week our hours will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3pm to 11pm. You can also find these hours posted on our Google Calendar on the right side of the main page. If you don’t have any plans this memorial day, why not stop by and build something fun? I will be here to give people tours, access to the space, and can help with projects to the best of my ability.nnThanks for your time, and remember to stay awesome!nnn
Help us buy a gigantic laser cutter!
By reportingsjr on
nWe have been planning so we can buy a giant laser cutter in the next few months and we want help!nnThe laser we are looking to get is a g.weike 100w laser cutter with a cutting area of 1.5m x 1.2m (~5ft x ~4ft) (big enough to cut the outline of someone 6ft tall). We will also be getting a rotary attachment so we can etch cylindrical objects like drinking glasses.nnIt will be a significant upgrade from our current laser cutter allowing us to do far more than our current laser.nn
n Our goal for fundraising is at least $4,000 with Hive13 matching donated funds. With your help we can reach that goal and even beyond it easily! When you donate you will be receiving minutes at half of our normal price. That means for every $1 you donate you get 4 minutes to use on our lasers.nnPlease note that you don’t need to be a member to purchase, use, or sell laser minutes. You can have a trained member operate our lasers for you!nn nn nnWe have a pledgie campain set up at https://pledgie.com/campaigns/28927 right now. Go donate!nnIf you have any questions feel free to contact Hive13 leadership at leadership@hive13.org.nn
