Lorin, our electronics warden, is presenting a solder-thon this weekend!

The hive 13 solder-thon will be this Sunday November 22nd, from 1pm-6pm at the Hive 13 hackerspace.

Come on down to the rootinest-tootinest solder wranglin' rodeo in the O-H-I-O! Old hands and greenhorns welcome. Bring something you've been meaning to solder, mend, or mangle. Get expert advice from solder slinger Lorin Parker (he'd even teach you about scopes and test gear for a smile). Learn and practice assembly, cable making, through hole soldering, hot air rework, SMD, and hang out with some cheesy movies and light ein wenig Licht Lötmusik.

Free for all members. Non-members welcome with donation to Hive13 (limited seating).

New Sidewalk

By dustin on Under Hive13, sidewalk

New Sidewalk

Hello everyone! Our new sidewalk is (mostly) finished! Just a few notes to consider with the new sidewalk:

  • The curb is a bit higher than our old one, so be careful when stepping up over it.
  • The sidewalk was made about a foot wider, so be careful with oncoming traffic.
  • During the spring they will plant trees in front of our building, with one smack dab in front of our door. This will make it easier for prospective members to find the space (look for the trees) but hard for people to find the door.

That's all I have for now, thanks for reading!

By dustin on

Step into the time machine. We're going to the future.

Welcome to the Hive13 hackerspace. A community space for technology enthusiasts to gather and collaborate on projects. Basically if you want to build anything digital or physical you can do it here. We will be going on a tour exploring everything from programming, lasers, 3D printing to CNC milling machines.

We are especially excited to invite futurist Marvin Dejean, author of “The DNA of Reinvention” to give us a glimpse into the future. Check out some of his writing here.

The event will be held on** August 12th**, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Here’s the agenda:
6:30pm – 6:45pm Arrival
6:45pm – 7:15pm Tour Hive 13
7:15pm – 7:45pm Marvin Dejean talk
7:45pm – 8:30pm Q&A with Marvin and discussion
This event is open to the public and hive members alike, so feel free to join us for some stimulating conversations and discussions!

By dustin on Under CAC, Collaboration, Contemporary Arts center, Hack, Noise

Hello everyone!

We are working with the Contemporary Arts Center for their Makerspace event: Noise hacking.  The event will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Join us for an evening of sound experiments, create your own crystal radio and learn how you can turn a sticky note into a speaker.

This event is open to the community and all ages are welcome with parental observation. All participants will be asked to sign a waiver before using any tools.

This event also gives you access to check out the art displayed at the contemporary arts center, so if you haven’t checked out their space, now’s the time to do it!

Electronics Open House – Thursday, June 25, 2015: 5:30pm to 8pm

By dustin on Under 'open house'

mini meme!

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the late post, but Lorin will be having an electronics open house

on Thursday, June 25 from 5:30pm to 8pm.

This is open to the public and members alike.   You can stop in at any point during the open house or stay for all of the open shop hours.

So stop on down with a project and Lorin will be happy to help you, or drop by to re-familiarize yourself with our electronics area. He will be there to help people with projects, introduce folks to the space, and answer questions!

Anything from:
-  Assembly and soldering. - How to use an oscilloscope (digital or analog) and other test gear. - Electronics theory. - Analog and Digital. - Old school electronics. - PCB etching (Unless time crunch doesn’t permit this. Regardless, he said he will probably be doing some workshops on such things in the future)
He will also be bringing his EEG project, and probably the analog Vocoder as examples.

Thanks Lorin for your outstanding efforts here at the hive! Bravo!
