nnHive13 member volunteers are busy this summer providing "DIY Polymers with Hive13" events for the Cincinnati Public Library Summer Learning Program. nnA series of ten Kitchen Chemistry events are already underway per a schedule at different library branch locations between June 9 and July 26. The series was instigated by member LorinP, and receives financial support from the Friends of the Public Library. Member MikeH has provided Kitchen Chemistry protocols (written instructions) on how to mix up polymer bouncy balls and extract DNA from strawberries as hands-on activities and summer fun for kids and their parents. nnFurther details are on the wiki (link). What hardware did you first use for text editing and word processing way back when? Well, in the 19th century, the must-have, high-tech, new-thing was the typewriter. Appreciate the technology of entrepreneurial makers from over 100 years ago and consider the path that got us to the QWERTY keyboard. Want to try your hand at 3D printing? Curious about what this technology is, does? Want to figure out the software? Need some insights from friends and community to get you started? Just want to stare listlessly at the magic of gooey plastic oozing into a creation?nnCome on down to this open, free event. This is an informal workshop day where anything goes. Maybe you have some experience with Eagle PCB and want to try out a free and open source design suite...nnNow's your chance to learn KiCad!nnKiCad is an electronics design suite that allows you to create schematics, printed circuit boards, and more with few limitations. It is a completely free and open source suite that runs on Linux, OS X, and Windows.nnThis workshop will cover the basic workflow of KiCad, but will not cover techniques for creating good electronic circuits. The end goal is for you to be able to start a basic project and know where to go for help if you get stuck.nnWhen: Thursday, January 28th from 7:30pm until about 10pm
